Coaching UC Faculty Members to Create TED-Style Talks for UCDC Event

UCDC-Speakers-SYB

We had the pleasure of working with 5 faculty members from the University of California system to create their 10-minute TED-style talks on the topic of reparations.

On May 23, they took the stage at the University of California Washington Program (UCDC)‘s Reparations from California to DC event, hosted by Tanya Golash-Boza (who is a graduate of our Thought Leader Academy).

We worked closely with the speakers to:

  • Establish their strong throughline for the argument they were making
  • Keep their key points high-level (no time to get into the weeds)
  • Integrate their personal stories (not the default for academics!)
  • Practice with them to deliver their talks conversationally

This is the power of public speaking to create social change.

Big congrats to the speakers for all their hard work, to Tanya for providing this awesome collaboration with Speaking Your Brand, and to Diane and Joy for their incredible coaching!

Join me in congratulating the speakers on my LinkedIn post.

Speakers: Giuliana Perrone, Mark Brown, Erika Weissinger, Rekai Rusinga, and Marisa Raya. 👏
